Modballs FAQ

Clean energy from real food: your questions answered

What are Modballs?

Modballs are soft, bite-size protein balls made with real-food ingredients such as oats, nut butter, seeds, fruit, dark chocolate and natural honey. Each ball weighs about 20 grams (roughly the size of a ping pong ball) and is individually wrapped, so they travel well and need no preparation.

They were created by food scientist and father Stephen Story, who wanted his kids to have clean energy for sports and all-day tournaments without sugar and caffeine. Modballs are a snack, not a meal replacement. They work before or after a workout, at your desk, at school, or on the road.

What flavors are available?

Modballs come in two ranges:

  • Happy Wholesome Protein Balls: Almond Coconut Chocolate, Peanut Butter Chocolate, Apple Cinnamon and Chocolate Cherry.
  • Clean Energy Bites: Almond Coconut Chocolate and Peanut Butter Chocolate, made with plant-based protein sources.

Not sure where to start? Peanut Butter Chocolate is the best-known flavor, and the variety pack lets you try them all.

How much protein, fiber and how many calories are in Modballs?

For Happy Wholesome, a serving is two balls. Each serving provides 8 g of protein, 6 g of dietary fiber and 185 calories, which is under 100 calories per ball.

The label is the best reference for a specific flavor, since nutrition varies slightly between flavors.

Do Modballs contain sugar?

Happy Wholesome is made without refined sugar. Sweetness comes from natural clover honey and blue agave nectar, plus fruit in some flavors. It is low in sugar but not sugar-free: a two-ball serving lists 9 g of total sugars, including 6 g of added sugars.

If you need to avoid sugar for medical reasons, check the label for your flavor first.

Are Modballs vegan or plant-based?

No. Neither range is vegan, because both contain honey. Happy Wholesome also uses milk protein isolate as its protein source. Clean Energy Bites use plant-based proteins (pea protein and brown rice protein) but still contain honey.

If dairy-based protein suits your diet, compare the Happy Wholesome flavors. If you prefer plant-based protein, look at the Clean Energy Bites.

What is in Modballs, and what do they contain for allergies?

Happy Wholesome flavors are built on whole grain rolled oats, almond or peanut butter, honey, milk protein isolate, chia, flax and hemp seeds, plus fruit, coconut or dark chocolate depending on the flavor. Modballs are gluten-free and non-GMO, and are made without high fructose corn syrup, preservatives or soy.

Allergens: Happy Wholesome flavors contain milk and tree nuts, and Peanut Butter Chocolate also contains peanuts. Oats are listed in most flavors. They are made in facilities that also handle other nuts and peanuts. Clean Energy Bites also list peas. Always read the current label for your specific flavor before eating, and see the full ingredient lists at modballs.com/pages/ingredients.

Are Modballs suitable for people taking GLP-1 medications?

Modballs are a portable, portion-controlled, protein-focused snack that some people on GLP-1 medications may find convenient. However, neither range is specifically formulated for GLP-1 users.

Appetite and food tolerance can change on these medications, so compare protein, fiber, sugar and calories on the label for the flavor you are considering, and ask your healthcare professional or a registered dietitian what suits you.
